BIG MATCH EXCITEMENT

The Stoke city manager Tony Pulis has said that he is very much looking forward to completing the much anticipated deal that could bring the former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen to the Britannia stadium. Michael Owen is currently available on a free transfer after being released by Manchester United at the end of last season. The 32-year-old may not have the best fitness record in the world, but he is a player who will be capable of scoring goals according to the Stoke city manager Tony Pulis. As a result, he is keen for the club to complete the deal prior to the end of the transfer window and the international break.

Despite not having made a lot of appearances for Manchester United, Michael Owen still has an excellent record for the Old Trafford club by scoring a goal every three games. This is extremely impressive considering that Michael Owen was largely used as a substitute player by the manager Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford. However, the Stoke city manager Tony Pulis has hinted that he is unlikely to use Michael Owen as a substitute player due to the enormous quality that he can provide from the start.

“I would love to sign Michael. If we can do it, we will do it, and do it on the basis that we did with Jonathan Woodgate and players like that. If he’s in the team he will get paid, and if he isn’t he won’t get paid so much,” said the Stoke city manager Tony Pulis in a recent interview given to the Sentinel. Stoke city are without a win this season and the arrival of Michael Owen is much needed because they will be facing the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester city in the next five matches.

HUTH ONE OF THE BEST

The Stoke city director of football John Rudge has said that the former Chelsea youth team product Robert Huth is one of the best players at the club and is easily worth his weight in gold. The 27-year-old German recently signed a three-year contract with the club after a number of rumours linking him with a move away from the club. He has been a great signing for the club since arriving from Championship club Middlesbrough a few seasons ago. Due to his versatility, he has been able to fill in the centre back and right back position for manager Tony Pulis.

He has been instrumental in helping Stoke city reach the Europa league places two seasons ago, while he helped them to well in Europe last season. Yet, he has been linked with a return to Germany due to the fact that he had only one season left on his current deal. Stoke city revealed a few weeks ago that they are desperate to keep Robert Huth. The 27-year-old has now signed a new deal with the club, but it has not changed his attitude one little bit according to the director of football John Rudge.

“He is an exceptionally good character. His determination and his will-to-win means he is always somebody you would want on your side. As a player, he is strong in the air and strong in the tackle, and then there is the fact he’s scored quite a few goals for us (17 to be precise). He is physically strong, determined and competes for every ball. He’ll put his head in where others won’t put their feet. “Extending his contract shows how far the club has gone and where it wants to be,” said Rudge. Stoke city will be taking on newly promoted Reading on the opening day of the new season.

SMITH LIKES HUTH

Stoke city legend Denis Smith has said that he is a big fan of the defensive pairing of Ryan Shawcross and Robert Huth. Stoke city have managed to establish themselves as one of the Premier league clubs.

They were initially expected to go straight back down in the Championship, but the fact that they have spent close to £ 20 million in the last summer transfer window shows the progress they have made as a club. They are once again expected to challenge for a European spot the season. Stoke city experienced the first taste of European football this season after qualifying for the Europa league.

One of the main backbones of the excellent period Stoke city have been having in recent times is due to the quality of the defensive players like Ryan Shawcross and Robert Huth. The Stoke city legend Denis Smith has said that he is a big fan of the two players. The former Chelsea defender Robert Huth arrived at the club from Middlesbrough for around £ 5 million. He has been so influential within the Stoke city team that it was recently revealed that Bayern Munich are interested in signing the German in the summer. Ryan Shawcross, meanwhile, was a £ 1 million signing from Manchester United.

“Sometimes in your career you get to play with someone who you are comfortable with. Ryan and Huthy click and work together just like myself and ‘Bluto’ did. I am delighted Huthy has signed a new contract. That’s brilliant news for Stoke fans. He is a good around the dressing room and is a strong character. He is also good for Ryan, who people forget is young for a central defender,” said Smith. Robert Huth has represented the German national team on a few occasions in the past, but was not selected for the Euro 2012.

HUTH BACKS CROUCH ENGLAND CALL

Stoke city defender Robert Huth has said that striker Peter Crouch should be taken to the Euro 2012 with the England squad. The German defender missed out on the opportunity to play in the Euro 2012 after being left out of the initial 27 man squad selected by Germany manager Joachim Leow.

However, the 27-year-old has said that he wants his teammate Peter Crouch to play at the Euro 2012 because he has shown over the season that he deserves a place. Many have thought that it has been a bad decision by Joachim Leow to leave out Robert Huth in favour of Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker.

Ever since arriving in England, Per Mertesacker has struggled to establish himself in the Arsenal team. Arsene Wenger has often resorted to using Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen as his defensive options. However, the former Werder Bremen defender has incredibly made it into the initial 27 man squad, which will then be reduced in the coming weeks. Robert Huth played for Germany in the 2006 World Cup, but has not been part of the subsequent major tournaments. Peter Crouch has also not played for England for the last couple of seasons, but Huth believes that Roy Hodgson should take him.

“I think Peter should definitely go. Whenever we played against Spurs he was awkward to play against. He has good movement, he pulls off you and he can rise above you to score a header. If you asked a few defenders, they will say they wouldn’t like to play against him. Germany have done well in recent tournaments but with France, Holland and Spain, there are some great teams there out there. With England you just don’t know what to expect. Having had a new manager just take over, they could go really well,” said Huth.

PULIS WANTS REVIEW

Robert Huth was recently sent off in a match against Sunderland and this has angered the Stoke boss Pulis.

In retaliation, he has decided to get hold of the DVD footage of the entire game so that he can have some sort of evidence and ensure that the matter is looked into during the review where he has mentioned about the red card being a complete wrong decision by the referee.

One of the standpoints of Pulis is that Robert had backed off from the tackle and in spite of the move; he was still made to leave the field with the show of a red card. This had sparked quite a bit of controversy amongst the team mates as well as the fans and the Stoke boss is adamant that this matter be taken up to the football governing bodies who will look into the matter and make the necessary deduction of the wrongful decision.

Referee’s decisions are quite uncertain at times as they manage to take one particular decision and manage to change on it the very next moment. This has not been the first time that such an allegation has gone against a referee for his wrongful decision and Pulis will ensure that Robert Huth is allowed back into the next game and given a subsequent offer for paying the penalty of a wrongful decision.

Pulis will make an official complaint to the FA as well as the authorities of the Premier League regarding this inconsistency and hope that he gets some feedback for his case that is put forward. The main reason for his effort is the fact that he cannot afford to lose players like Robert Huth who are pivotal players for the club’s performance.
