Robert Huth says Arsenal Indirectly Spurred Them to the Title

Leicester City managed a shock title win last season, but defender Robert Huth claims that it may have not been possible without the help from Arsenal.

Back in February, Leicester faced Arsenal away at the Emirates stadium and this was seen as a big test for the title credentials of the relative unknowns. Leicester lost the game through a goal from Danny Welbeck. Huth says that the entire squad was deflated due to the loss, but they were greeted with gloating selfies from Arsenal players after the game.

This apparently spurred the team back into life, and Huth has described the amazing scenes where they went on an amazing run thereafter. As the underdogs, Huth reveals that the reaction from Arsenal gave an extra edge to their game. This proved to be the difference in the next few weeks of the campaign that were so crucial in putting Manchester City out of contention. Spurs were the last challengers left in the title race last season and they were dealt emphatically with a run of 1-0 wins that demoralised the opposition. This season, though, Leicester have been struggling as many expected. Following a heavy loss against Manchester United last weekend, they managed to return to winning ways with a comfortable win over Burnley.

“For me the key point was when we lost to Arsenal. Everyone was celebrating, they were doing selfies. Even though we were still top. A few of the lads stuck a few those pictures up and it got the blood boiling. It gave us an extra yard in the next few games,” said Huth. The experience of the German was a major factor in sustaining the results towards the end of the season. Due to their lack of experience when it comes to a title race, Huth offered them great help in this regard.
